Welcome to The Milpara Project. Here at Milpara, we support church congregations to become integrated with their local communities through activities that reinforce the Church’s relevance and valued role in community, and that promote vibrant community. There are no template solutions or processes, but rather a focus on initiating and sustaining conversation through which congregations develop and implement their own ideas integrating church and local community.
We hope you will take the time to look around and learn more about the Project. You can download a copy of our Milpara Project Concept Paper. If you are a member of a local congregation in Queensland and are interested in exploring what Church-community integration could look like for your congregation, we would love to hear your story and your ideas. Perhaps, your congregation is already a deeply embedded and valued member of your local community…don’t keep your story to yourself, it can be a great encouragement to others.
Here at Milpara we are excited to see how the project is developing. Recent discussions in the team have centred on the importance of ‘conversation’ and the role of ‘listening’. Each congregation has their own unique story set in a context unlike any other congregation. There is no formula or model, but rather each congregation and its neighbourhood, forge their own journey of working together to build vibrant, inclusive, welcoming communities. What a privilege to hear and be part of these stories.
Another focus of Milpara is the localism: local church and local community. To read more about why we believe the local community is relevant and important for the Church congregations, check out this post from our coordinator Bek.
In a few weeks time Milpara Coordinator Bek and her family will be heading overseas for a few years and consequently stepping out of her current role. Bek has agreed to stay on as an advisor, but the Project will shortly be looking for someone to take her place as Coordinator. If you have a understanding of, and experience in, community development practice and an interest in working with congregations and their communities, stay tuned or contact us to register your interest for this forthcoming part-time vacancy.
